This is quite an old news story back from 2002, which has become viral with the recent rise of Tyrion Lannister's trial by combat in the Game of Thrones series
Leon Humphrey a 72 year old (60 at the time the article was published) unemployed mechanic was fined £25 for failing to notify the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) that his motorbike was off the road.
Instead of agreeing to pay the fine, he was taken to court were he demanded a trial by combat and that he shall fight a champion chosen by DVLA
Unfortunately for poor Humphrey not only was he declined of his offer, he was also charged with a new fine of £200 with £100 costs.
Poor Humphrey, although I believe he wouldn't have made much of an impact if the trial were to proceed. It's still sad to know that he was charged 12x his original fine.
